Apart from (smartly) keeping Judi Dench on as Bond’s boss M, it did just that, but the Skyfall Sam Mendes. Skyfall, the 23rd film in the James Bond espionage franchise, is notable for a number of reasons, but perhaps the biggest shocker is that Sam Mendes, the Academy Award winning director of American Beauty, took his turn at the helm.Just as notable, it has elements of Daniel Craig’s anti-Bond personality for those who find the franchise too cheesy and testosterone-driven as Film Review: Skyfall. Film Review: Skyfall. Simon Cocks. Skyfall is a long film, with its running time clocking in at 142 minutes (making it the second-longest Bond film ever), but it really does not feel long at all. The pacing is perfect, and the straightforward plotting keeps everything very focused.

It has a complex villain, a memorable song and a striking cinematography from Deakins that we never expect we needed in a film like this. Skyfall will be remembered as a significant achievement for the franchise.
